Fisher Tarn is a peaceful still water just outside Kendal on the edge of the Lake District. The fishery is quiet and uncrowded, allowing anglers to benefit from fishing in wonderful scenery, whilst keeping out trout healthy, and respect for the landscape.

The club works in partnership with United Utilities, the landowner, to ensure the area is sensitively maintained, so members can enjoy thoughtful, traditional fly fishing throughout the season.

Members value the tarn for its tranquility and natural beauty. There is space to fish without pressure or disturbance. The fly‑only, barbless approach supports strong, healthy fish and encourages skill, patience, and watercraft. Clear water, varied margins, and changing conditions throughout the year provide rewarding fishing for both experienced anglers and those refining their technique.

There is no general public access to the tarn or the dam structure, and visitors should respect land ownership and follow any local signage or public rights of way in the surrounding area.

Anglers must not access the island under any circumstance. When the water level is low, it is possible to walk on to it, but this is forbidden with strictly no access, as part of our lease arrangements.

Season

Fisher Tarn is open all year* to WADAA members and day ticket anglers.

*As a result of the increasing impacts that climate change is having on summer trout fishing, WADAA has developed a detailed set of actions, triggered when conditions become critical for fish health. These may result in the temporary and short term closure of venues. Closures will be indicated using the traffic light system on the homepage of the club website and in your MyWADAA account. Further details can be obtained from the club on request.

Opening Hours

Fishing is allowed from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.

Fisher Tarn Fishery Rules

Permit holders agree to read and comply with the fishery rules as printed below and/or displayed on the fishery notice boards and to comply with the Environment Agency Fishery Bylaws. Failure to do so renders the permit invalid. You must carry this permit with you while fishing.
