Fishery Rules – Specific Fisheries

Farletonview

  • Fishing from the 1st of March until the 31st
  • Fishing is from 8.00am until sunset.
  • Strictly fly only.
  • All brown and tiger trout must be returned.
  • Any fish caught weighing 5lbs or more must be returned to the water.
  • Barbless or de-barbed hooks only.
  • Access to the fishery is via the signposted entrance only (not via the café and nursery)
  • Day tickets can be purchased from the cafe during opening hours. Cafe opening hours Thursday to Sunday only.
  • When fishing sunken line tactics, the fly must be continuously worked. The rod must be held whenever a fly is in the water.

High Newton Reservoir

  • Fly Fishing only. Open all year.
  • All brown and tiger trout must be returned.
  • Any fish caught weighing 5lbs or more must be returned to the water.
  • Barbless or de-barbed hooks only.
  • Vehicles must not be parked adjacent to, or at any point east of the reservoir house or where they may cause obstruction.
  • Fishing is permitted from the dam but not from the valve tower platform.
  • Extreme care must be taken when backcasting, particularly when fishing the east bank adjacent to the lane.
  • The Fishery is open to members only.

Ghyll Head Reservoir

  • Fly Fishing only. Open all year.
  • All brown and tiger trout must be returned.
  • Any fish caught weighing 5lbs or more must be returned to the water.
  • Barbless or de-barbed hooks only.
  • Parking by the dam gate is prohibited and vehicles parked along the public highway must not cause obstruction.
  • Fishing from the valve tower is prohibited.

Bigland Trout Fishery

  • Fly Fishing only. Open all year.
  • All brown and tiger trout must be returned.
  • Any fish caught weighing 5lbs or more must be returned to the water.
  • Barbless or de-barbed hooks only.
  • Sight indicators, sight bobs or other floatation devices are not permitted.
  • There is no access to the site or to the fishery before 8.00am. Anglers must be off the site at sunset.
  • Float tubes permitted on specified dates.

High Fairbanks Tarn

  • Fly fishing only. Open 15th March – 30th September Inc.
  • Strictly catch and release only. (sport fishing only)
  • Sight indicators, sight bobs or other floatation devices are not permitted. The use of buoyant lures, (e.g. boobies and muddlers), are prohibited when using sinking lines.
  • Barbless or de-barbed hooks only.
  • The Fishery is open to members only. There is a limit of four vehicles on the car parking area at any one time. The parking area is situated adjacent to the cattle grid at Borwick Fold. Vehicles must only be parked in this area and must not park so as to cause obstruction. Anglers are warned that cattle may be in this field and WADAA cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to vehicles.
  • The only route of access to the fishery is from the farm track on the right 200 yards along the road heading north from the parking area.

Ratherheath Tarn

  • No access whatsoever is permitted on days or evenings when shooting is taking place.
  • Maximum 2 rods per angler.
  • Night fishing is permitted on the bank adjacent to the car park.
  • Anglers wishing to fish overnight must book in advance with the Secretary/Administrator 72 hours prior to the visit. A maximum of three anglers per night will be allowed (excepting accompanied juniors). Consecutive nights are not permitted.

Blelham Tarn

  • Fishing is restricted to pegs adjacent to the boathouse and those on the east shore.
  • No overnight fishing

Cleabarrow Tarn

  • Fishing shall be from the constructed platforms only.
  • Anglers wishing to fish overnight must book in advance with the Secretary/Administrator 72 hours prior to the visit. A maximum of two anglers per night will be allowed (excepting accompanied juniors). Consecutive nights are not permitted.
  • Anglers fishing overnight must use only the prepared bivvy platforms.
  • Maximum 2 rods per angler

Castle Head

  • Fishing shall be from the constructed platforms only.
  • Maximum of 2 rods per angler
  • No keep nets allowed other than for organised matches.
  • No overnight fishing
  • Fishing is from sunrise until sunset only

Grasmere

  • Fishing shall be from the areas on the fishery map outlined in red only – see website.

Rydal

  • Fishing shall be from the areas on the fishery map outlined in red only – see website.

All members shall be bound by the Club Rules. Anyone found to be in breach of these rules shall be dealt with by the Board of Directors, who reserve the right to suspend or expel the offending member in accordance with the conditions set out in the WADAA disciplinary procedure.

All day ticket holders shall also be bound by these rules. Failure to comply may result in an individual being asked to leave the fishery and could lead to further sanctions.
